Minor works will be carried out to the first floor of the house to rationalise the spaces. The proposals seek to consolidate a series of existing smaller spaces to create a more sociable kitchen/dining space with better connection to the garden. Retaining natural light into the property and framing views out were key to the concept of the design. A new entrance makes good use of an existing garage, providing a utility and downstairs bathroom. Planning approval was granted in 2021 for the new owners to reconcile the layout, enhancing natural daylight and useable spaces (phase 1). The entrance experiences will be improved by constructing carefully crafted porches (phase 2). The proposal reinstates an existing access point to the property, redefining the historical arrangement and changing the dynamic of how the owners use the house and gardens. The house retains much of its original character and features following years of minimal intervention and neglect. The new owners seek to maintain as much of the buildings narrative as possible whilst improving the fabric to withstand its coastal climate. In 2021 listed building consent was granted for extensive restoration works including a replacement roof, works to existing doors and windows and the replacement of cement render and pointing with lime. Additional openings to the rear of the property will improve the levels of natural daylight and a new bathroom will be introduced at first floor level. A vaulted ceiling culminates in a large rooflight, maintaining high levels of natural daylight deep into the plan.
